pool

last Monday. Unfortunately I was in San Juan Capistrano working. I had to go down there for the week so I missed the first night and my Wednesday 8-ball BCA qualifier league.

I haven’t hit any balls in a week so it will be interesting to see how much this affects my game on Monday night.

The 8-ball league is also a money league and it lasts for a couple more weeks. When it is over there is going to be a Scotch doubles tournament. The way the league is going to pair up partners is by taking the player with the highest win percentage and pairing them with the player who has the lowest win percentage. They then take the second highest with the second lowest until all of the players are paired up.

Scotch doubles is where each player takes turns shooting in a rotating manner. I’m trying to end up somewhere in the middle. This league has very good players with a few outstanding players and a few beginners. I don’t know how my strategy will work out.

I started to play pool seriously 11 years ago. Before that I rarely played but I always thought it was fun. When I bought my house one of my two criteria was to have room for a 9′ table. I’ve got a 100 year old Brunswick in perfect condition. I play on Monday nights in an in-house 9-ball money league that runs for 14 weeks followed by a weekend tournament. I also compete in the BCA 8-ball tournaments at both the regional (Lincoln City, Oregon) and national (Las Vegas, Nevada) tournaments.
My game is up and down but over the years I have improved.  The last year or so I can usually beat what would be considered B-level players. I still get beat by the A-level and above in longer races but in races to 3 I sometimes win.

This summer the Monday league is in hiatus so they are having open 9-ball tournaments. Out of the 4 that I’ve participated in I have won money in 3 of them.
